Did you know that 20 years ago, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Exton, Pennsylvania celebrated its first Rejoicing Spirits service? Congratulations, happy birthday and thank you for inspiring so many Rejoicing Congregations across the country!
Whether you’ve been worshiping for one week, one year or 10 years, today is a perfect time to celebrate worship where everyone is invited!
In thanksgiving for 20 years, here are some fun ways to celebrate this anniversary in your Rejoicing Spirits community:
- Noise-makers: kazoos, birthday noisemakers, drums, be creative! Make a “joyful noise!” Happy birthday!
- Cake: every birthday deserves a cake! Or, cookies, or Bundtinis, or lefse, or whatever your folks enjoy!
- Balloons: fill your worship space with red balloons. Pentecost, the birthday of the church, invites us to celebrate with balloons!
- Birthday gifts: have a craft time after worship where every person helps make a gift for someone in need of a day brightener.
- Game time: have worshipers play games based on the number 20. Many resources are available online.
- Worship scripture: Psalm 71:6 “Birthdays are a celebration of another year of living, God is the one who gave us life, and we should not forget to glorify him for all that he has done and will do.” Rejoicing Spirits refrain: “Yay! God!”
- You know your people. Be creative! Celebrate God’s love, your people, and the ministry of Mosaic that we share.
This month is a month of jubilee—a celebration of belonging, inclusivity and all of humanity. We invite you to celebrate Rejoicing Spirits—its origins, its continuity and its future.
